Autumn colors - a single maple leaf

Fall Colors

Autumn in upstate New York this year seemed to be off to a slow start in mid-October. The colors were scattered and muted. However as October progressed, vibrant reds, yellows, and oranges emerged. I came across the above maple leaf in the yard and thought the yellow contrasted well with the red to define the leaf structure. I also found several other specimens and I positioned them on an old tree stump in late afternoon light for photographing.

Using the Canon 7D Mark II and the EF 135 F/2.0L lens, I took the above image of a single maple leaf.

More to come...

Have a great day!

Bokeh with the Fuji X100s

Fungus on a Birch tree

There are a number of Birch trees in our back yard and these large Fungus grow on them. In the Autumn, they turn a deep brown orange and have wonderful texture.

While walking our dog, I took the above image using the Fuji X100s in macro mode with the yellows of the Poplar trees in the back ground. In macro mode, I've found the Fuji X100s can produce some wonderful bokeh.

The last image from the Cohoes waterfall series

Cohoes Waterfall in Autumn at Sunset

While the previous image was a multi-exposure multi-image composition, the above image is a single medium length exposure image taken from the river bed. While I liked the colors and light in the HDR images of the long exposures, the wind was causing blurring in the trees. In the above images the trees are much share, while the water is still blurred.

The above image was taken with a Fuji X100s and a B&W ND 1.8 filter.

That ends the Cohoes waterfall series.

Have a great day!

Cohoes waterfall HDR panorama

Autumn Sunset - Panorama

This image is multi-image multi-exposure HDR panorama of the Cohoes waterfall taken from the observation platform. The sun was just setting over the hills behind me and the light was mostly on the rock face and trees.

The photos were taken with the Fuji X100s and the HDR and panorama images were processed in Lightroom CC. A B&W ND 1.8 filter was also used.

Tufted Titmouse standing at attention

Tufted Titmouse

A Tufted Titmouse visits the back yard bird feeder, or better known as a tree stump with bird seed. This image was taken with the Canon 7D Mark II and Canon EF 100-400 F/4.5-5.6L IS USM lens.

I've managed to take some decent images of the birds at this location from about eight feet away. This vantage point works well for the more adventurous birds, but it is unfortunately not very successful with the Cardinals. I may have to rig up a blind for the winter months and investigate how that works.

Cohoes waterfall at sunset photographed from the river bed

Cohoes Waterfall in Autumn

A continuation of my visit to the Cohoes waterfall. I made my way down to the riverbed and placed a ND filter on the Fuji X100s. The timing was nearly perfect as the sun began to light-up the rock face. Again, unfortunately the wind was quite strong and the trees are a bit blurry, but I do like the colors.

Have a great day!
