Super Moon November 2016

November 19, 2016

This past week you may have heard there was a "Super Moon" on November 14. This is where the moon's full phase corresponds to its orbits closest point to the Earth ... and this year it is the closest it has been to the Earth since 1948 ... causing the moon to appear larger in the sky.

November 13 was a clear and cold evening in upstate New York resulting in little atmospheric distortion, so I grabbed the Canon 7D Mark II and the Canon EF 100-400 F/4.5-5.6L IS USM lens and took some pictures hand held in preparation for the next evening.

Well, as luck would have it, that's the only chance I had as the evening of November 14 was overcast and clear images of the moon were not possible.

Below is a single image taken at F/8. Above is a median stack of several images in Photoshop CC.

Maybe for the December 13 Super Moon the weather will cooperate.

Thanks for stopping by today.
