Female Northern Cardinal in the ice

Ice Cardinals

December 23, 2017

A small snow storm moved through Northern New York on the 22nd dropping about 3 inches of snow and canceling school on the last school day of the year. We took advantage of the day-off by catching an afternoon screen of the Star Wars The Last Jedi with the kids. After arriving home, I shoveled the drive way and thankfully because over night we received about 1/8" of ice.

Spring Male Northern Cardinal - Left Profile

April 23, 2017

A male Northern Cardinal in profile during an early Spring snow storm. I like how the melted snow forms water drops on the birds' feathers.

A Common Grackle in a Spring Snow

Grackle in a Spring Snow

April 20, 2017

A Common Grackle visits in a early Spring snow storm. Photographed with a Canon 7D Mark II with a Canon EF 100-400 F/4.5-5.6L IS USM lens handheld. I find these birds appear more colorful in photographs than in real life often; this particular bird had a striking purple and blue head though. I also like the detailed water drops dotted on the bird.
