Above, a blue and white Iris photographed earlier this Summer in the rain. I like photographing Iris because of their complexity and structure; seemingly no two flowers are the same. This flower has the blue and white petals that make it stand out in the flower garden, but the color photograph left something to be desired and I have had it marked for black and white conversion.
Using Tonality CK and Photoshop CC 2018, I converted the original image to black and white that was taken with the Canon 7D Mark II and the Canon EF 135MM F/2L lens. For the conversion, I focused on highlighting the contrast between the water drops and the petals. To do this, I used a Fuji simulation with a blue filter in Tonality CK. With these settings as a starting point, I increased the whites and blacks a slight amount and added a small amount of structure. In Photoshop, I added sharpening using a high pass filter layer and a mask to localize the sharpening.
With these adjustments, the details in the petals now pop out, which is what I was after for this image.
