Break-away in the rain under the lights

Under The Lights and Rain

September 10, 2017

This past Spring's club U14 soccer season was a very busy time, both personally and professionally, which prevented me from spending much time in post with the photos I took at my son's games. Overall, I took approximately 8000 photos of tournaments and league games. Throughout the Summer I have been pecking away at them and this series is one that I knew I wanted to convert to black and white from the moment I downloaded them from the camera.

Iris after the rain

September 1, 2017

Photographing flowers around the house one Summer afternoon after a rain storm. I find the Iris is an interesting flower with its flowing petals, detailed structure, and bright colors.

Pileated Woodpecker

August 13, 2017

While walking the dog today I heard the tell-tale "knock...knock...knock" of the Pileated Woodpecker. The Pileated makes a much lower tone than a Red-Bellied or Downy woodpecker makes. I led the dog away and into the house and grabbed the camera.

Bald Eagle at Lake Saratoga

Bald Eagle at Lake Saratoga

July 16, 2017

While at Lake Saratoga taking photos of my daughter sailing, I noted a Bald Eagle land in a large pine tree about 60 feet above ground. With the Canon 7D Mark II and the Canon EF 100-400MM F/4.5-5.6L IS USM lens handheld, I managed to take a few photographs of this majestic bird.

Summer flowers - 135MM | 1/320 SEC | F8.0 |  ISO 320

Summer Flowers

July 15, 2017

I broke out the Canon EF 135MM F/2L lens with the Canon 7D Mark II the other day to capture the Summer flowers. Having been almost exclusively shooting the EF100-400 F/4.0-5.6L IS USM lens this Spring and early Summer because of all the kids sports, it was refreshing (and challenging) to go back to using that extreme shallow depth of field that you can achieve with the 135MM lens.

Sailing on Lake Saratoga

July 15, 2017

My daughter spent two weeks this Summer sailing on Lake Saratoga with a day camp run by the Saratoga Lake Sailing Club. She loves to spend the day on the water swimming and sailing ... I wish I could do this for two weeks!
